Eczema Skin Conditions
Eczema covers a group of skin conditions also known as dermatitis that affects all age groups. In a mild form, you’ll notice the skin is itchy and dry, and in more severe forms the skin can become raw, broken and even bleed. There are quite a few different kinds of eczema, the most common are; atopic eczema, contact eczema, seborrhoeic eczema and xerotic eczema.
An Eczema skin is not contagious but may be terrible looking.
An Eczema skin rash can cause a lot of physical discomfort. While eczema rash can occur anywhere on the body, it is usually found on the hands, neck, face, and legs. Sometimes you will get a rash on your lips. In children an eczema rash is common in the creases of the knees, elbows, and wrists. Eczema skin symptoms usually start as an itch that develops into a rash. Don’t scratch the site that’s itching as this will worsen the problem.
Do not use hot water for showers but instead use lukewarm water. Steer clear of scrubbing the skin either with a towel or using abrasives. If you work where they use a lot of chemicals that could cause you problems.
What To Do
It’s a good idea to wear dress in cotton clothing and avoid other fabrics. A mild soap like dove for sensitive skin works well as it contains no perfumes. For bathing use oatmeal rather than commercial ingredients.
Eczema medications are prescribed according to the magnitude of the problem. These lotions are meant to soothe the irritated and inflamed skin. They also moisturize the skin. These lotions can help to maintain the moisture level so the eczema is not as noticeable. The soothing effects of these lotions can also relieve the discomfort one feels when experiencing from this disease. The lotions made for eczema easily spread over a large area to reduce extra irritation.
Eczema is usually treated using glucocorticoid ointments, lotions or creams. A common side effect is the skin becomes thin and brittle. Because steroids are immuno-suppressive, if they are taken without the benefit of antibiotics or antifungals, skin infections can take hold.
Some doctors prescribe antibiotics for eczema. Dry cracked skin can leave an easy pathway for an infection to start. This is why many doctors use antibiotics in eczema cases.
